Lassen Volcanic NP - day two

Scrambled eggs and a game of go fish for breakfast to power up for our hike to Paradise Meadows where snow would greet us along the way, but not the "fluffy kind" that they were hoping for.  More like tiny balls of frozen ice but still fun none-the-less!   The hike was mostly uphill on the way in, and might have felt a little harder than we are used to since we were now at 6000ft.  When we reached our destination, the meadow paradise greeted me with meltdowns - child #1 was disappointed we couldn't go all the way to the top of the snow mountain and child #2 had developed what seemed at the moment to be a severe tummy ache.  thankfully they both recovered quickly for the hike back down the mountain when they found a spot to "sled".  After a failed attempt at a nap, the kids had fun on the DIY teetertotter and later on the avalanche rocks (aka chaos jumbles) from avalanche 300 years ago that helped to form Manzanita Lake (seen in the photos from day one). These rocks were where I finally found a few bars of cell service to confirm to J that we had indeed made it safe and sound. In the late afternoon, we decided to walk to the little Museum and picked up a Junior Ranger workbook and Chipmunk Club worksheet to work on for the rest of our visit. Excellent projects for the kiddos to get excited about.  On the walk back, we took the route by the lake and spotted 9 baby ducklings with their mama.  So so cute!  Back to camp for dinner and then of course what day would be complete without s'mores??
